FAQ
What does ORITSU mean?
ORITSU is Japanese for "Royal".
Where are ORITSU GRILLS made?
The hand crafted wooden art, GRAG heat shield, Silk Skin coatings, manufacturing and assembly are all 100% American made. Some of the stainless steel hardware currently comes from China and other parts of Asia.
Is the ORITSU GRILL safe to place directly on a table?
Throughout our extensive test process, the highest recorded table temperature measure directly under the grill was 129F (54C), with the ambient temperature on that day at 88F (31C). We believe safety always comes first:-
- when the grill has hot coals in do not carry around people
- always place it on a sturdy surface
- ensure there are no combustible materials near by
- don't leave the grill unattended
- only use log charcoal and do not exceed the recommended quantities
- don't empty spent ash in the trash, it could start a fire
Is the ORITSU GRILL dishwasher safe?
The removable firepan, grill grate and chopsticks are stainless steel and can be placed in the dishwasher. The wood body and GRAG heat shield should only be wiped down with a slightly soapy wet cloth then dried.
Why does the "Double" ORITSU GRILL have two firepans and not one long one?
A firepan measuring 24" will not fit in many household dishwashers, let alone smaller ones found in RV's, small cabins, etc. For this reason we opted for two firepans, plus there are some added advantages:-
- For a smaller group, you can uses one side of the grill maintaining the required heat characteristics.
- You can split the grill, one side for skewers, the other for grilling on the grate.
- You can have two different heat zones simultaneously.
- Our 12" firepan will fit in most/all dishwashers.
How long will an ORITSU GRILL last?
We did not design our grill to be a consumable product, in fact we did the opposite. As a piece of table art we want your ORITSU to last forever, and if you look after it like a piece of art there is no reason why it shouldn't generate many many years of happy memories.

Cleaning and storage
Cleaning up is the not so fun part of any dining adventure, adding a grill to the cleanup may seem daunting. We don't like cleanup either, so our technical guys spent time on how to simplify and perfect this process.
Cleaning
The ORITSU firepan, riser bars, chopsticks, coal and grill grates get very hot, as a result any juices or basting sauces that come in contact bake onto the stainless steel surface, making them difficult to remove under normal washing conditions. Prior to placing these items in your dishwasher, we recommend you place them in your sink and spray them thoroughly with a good oven cleaner. Follow the cleaning and safety recommendations on the oven cleaner spray can. After ten minutes of stand time, place them in the dishwasher and wash as normal.
The table art portion of the grill, wooden body with GRAG inserts is not dishwasher safe and should not be submersed in water. This part of the grill typically does not get that dirty and should only require wipe down with a warm wet cloth. For added cleaning you can use a little dish washing soap on the cloth for those difficult to remove spots. The wood surface has been treated with our Silk Skin product which makes it impervious to water, meaning basting sauces, oils etc. should not stick to it. After cleaning dry with a soft cloth.
Log charcoal is reusable
The burn time on good log charcoal can exceed eight hours. If you complete your awesome dining experience with large coals left over, we recommend you extinguish the coals and reuse them another day. There are many videos on "how to safely extinguish charcoal for reuse" on YouTube for reference. Do not empty the ash filled firepan in the trash, log charcoal in some cases can have lit embers going for twelve plus hours, this will cause a fire!
Storage
Store the ORITSU GRILL in a cupboard or on shelf avoiding direct sunlight and moisture. We recommend you apply Silk Skin to the wooden surface at least annually as a minimum. Silk Skin is available in our online Shop.
